Vancouver Outdoors Guide

Trails

  • This dog friendly park offers over 73 km of trails to explore near UBC. Huge large growth trees, boardwalks, and off leash sections as well. The inner loop is one of our favorites, taking you down to the Simon Fraser Viewpoint.

  • If you are really adventurous you can do pacific Spirit and Spanish Trail all in one go, but we prefer to make these separate walks. A bit more elevation change than Pacific Spirit, but still an easy route.

  • There are multiple trails to take, we like the full loop trail which is 5.5 km. This is a more challenging route with some elevation change compared to Pacific Spirit and Spanish Trails. There are multiple lookouts points to take a break, grab a bite, and look back on downtown Vancouver.

  • This thin dirt path crosses boardwalk bridges underneath tall old growth trees. 6.4 km to and back trail. Park on Clffmont for the full trail or Panorama Dr. for a shorter route.

  • Stanley Park may get all of the love for walks near downtown, but looping around False Creek is a great way to get closer to the city and buzz. Starting at Kitsilano Beach, stopping by Granville Island, all the way down to Science World and BC place, passing the many marinas and crossing back over on Burrard Bridge. The best part is there are so many spots to catch a water taxi to shorten the 10 km loop.

  • Just north of the popular Capilano Bridge, you will find parking at the Cleveland Dam. The Second Canyon viewpoint is a 3 km trail with a few hundred feet of elevation change. The views of the canyon are fantastic and its not as well known as the Capilano bridge, but you can extend your hike down there with a 1km detour each way.

Activities

  • Pickleball and tennis courts, basketball, gardens, disc golf, lawn bowling and more. So much to do here it will take you mulitple visits to get to it all.

  • Baseball, lawn bowling, track and field, outdoor pool, pickleball courts, pitch and putt. So much to do and lots of trails to explore.

  • The Shipyards and Lonsdale Quay Market are the perfect place for food and shopping. With so many outdoor food stalls and indoor areas, you are spoiled for choices when the munchies hit. Excellent spot for the north shore locals or catch the Seabus from downtown Vancouver.

  • Top notch botanical gardens. Perfectly maintained and landscaped. So much fun to explore. It is a very popular spot, so parking can be tough during peak times.

  • Hands down our favorite off leash dog area in Vancouver. Perfect after finishing the Spanish Trail mentioned above and only 7 km from downtown. Great views and perfect place to people watch.

  • We love the short walk around the public dock and take a look back on all of the high rise buildings. With many open areas it is a great spot close to downtown to get a workout in.
