Ottawa Outdoors Guide
Trails
-
Park at the Britannia Beach, head over to Mud Lake Park, finishing by looping around Britannia Bay with a swim in the river.
-
This trail section is part of the Trans Canada Trail. You can join the trail at any point between Wesley Clover Campground and downtown. This flat, pave route is perfect for walking, running or biking. We especially like parking at Westboro Beach or Remic Rapids Park
-
While famous for skating the entire length, we love this paved trail to explore Dows Lake all the way to downtown. Stops include checking out Carleton University, TD Place and the Locks at Parliament Hill.
-
You can start at either end, downtown at Stanleys Park or Mooneys Bay, but we are partial to starting at Mooneys Bay, crossing at Ottawa U and coming back along the west side of the river through Carleton University.
-
Starting at Major Hills Park, this path take you behind the Parliament Buildings along the water, crossing to Quebec on the Portage Bridge, past the History Museum and back on Alexandria Bridge. The view back on Ottawa from the History museum is definitely worth stopping for a picture
-
For those in the east end and Orleans, the paved pathways and water views aren’t just for the downtowners and west enders. We like parking at Lot 27 near the water treatment facility, head west to downtown and end up in Rockcliffe Park, or take the short walk east to the Ottawa River lookout.
Activities
-
Grab a beach towel, frisbee or volleyball and head to Mooney’s Bay for a afternoon of fun and sun. Our recommendation is to stay later or come an hour or two before sunset and catch the rowers training. A short walk from Mooney’s Bay is Hogs Back Park and explore the waterfalls.
-
One of our favoruite places to people watch. Whether it be from the trails, kayaks our many patios, this is the spot to just hangout and catch the Ottawa summer vibes.
-
This Barrhaven park is the perfect spot to drop in your kayaks and explore outside of the downtown. Head south under neath the Vimy Ridge Bridge
-
With many trails and lookouts, this offers lots to do including chilling at the beach.
-
We may not be the best golfers around, but still love to have a friendly competition with friends, 19th Tee Drive Range and Mini Putt in Kanata will be sure to impress.
-
From the Glebe in the north with a variety of independent shops and cafes, to the more commercial TD Place. Window shopping and dinner options are endless.
