Winnipeg Outdoors Guide

Trails

  • This provincial park is less than 30 minutes from downtown Winnipeg and offers numerous trail options. Cedar Bog and Chickadee are our two favourites. Both are loop trails that are 4km in length and around an hour to complete

  • This loop follows an urban forest trail along the Seine River with gorgeous views along the way. Hikers often prefer the narrow dirt path closest to the river, but there is also a wide gravel path through the centre of the forest (without the river views), that connects at multiple points along the way

  • The Eve Werier Waterfowl Pond via Sagimay Trail Loop in Assiniboine Forest passes through a variety of forest and wetland environments. Parking is on Chatfront road, just off of Grant Ave.

  • This 3km mostly paved path follows along the edge of the Red River. Plenty of parking and two great detours are the Carol Shields Labyrinth and King Park Off Leash Dog Park

  • Around an hour outside of Winnipeg, this is a great trail for a day trip. It is short at 3km, so we recommend pairing it up with the Birds Hill Park trail mentioned above. This trail is mostly boardwalk through the marshlands.

  • Right along the Red River, the St. Adolphe Friendship Trail is a well-maintained trail. To access the trail, take Main Street and turn onto St. Paul Road. The beginning of the trail is at the end of St. Paul Road where you can park.

Activities

  • With many walking options in the south, along the Red River is the heart of this park. Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, cricket, picnic sites and The Leaf Botanical Gardens are all great options

  • Over 640 acres to explore, with many walking trails but paddling Lake Devonian is our favorite activity here.

  • A must do in Winnipeg, so many shops but we are here for the food options. Grab some food and head over to The Forks Historic Site to eat and take in the sights

  • Volleyball courts, outdoor pool and plenty of picnic options make this a great park. But catching a show at Rainbow Stage is a must do.

  • Our third pick within Assiniboine Park, well kept gardens and plenty of interesting sculptures along the short path.

  • A great summer swimmig hole with beach vibes and plenty of other activities such as short walks, disc golf and the heritage arts center.
