Trails
-
Parking can be found by the trailhead on Johnstone Road. The well maintained trail is easy to follow through a gorgeous pine tree forest. All along the trail you will have beautiful views of Nelson.
-
This route starts along Antenna Trail, and there are two ways to reach the top. Once at the fork about 600m in, you can go left for a more mild climb, or take the right fork for a steeper and quicker ascent.
-
The Magic Line Trail is part of the Kimberley Nordic Club Trail network. In winter, this trail is used for snowshoeing and in summer hiking, mountain biking, and trail running. It has three climbs and three descents with great views from the top of each climb.
-
The road gets very rough as you approach the trailhead, hiking to the start of the trail is recommended if you aren't driving a high clearance vehicle. The trail to the lookout is in good shape, but has steep challenging sections with loose rocks. The views from the top are spectacular and worth the struggle.
-
Lots of trial options here and cabins to explore or warm up in. An under rated trail without many coming here… yet.
-
Many trails around the Selkirk College Castlegar Campus along the riverfront where the Kootenay and Columbia river meet. The best hike near Castelgar if you can’t venture far from the beaten path.
Activities
-
A very short hike takes you to these lovely falls, the perfect place to take a no soap shower under.
-
Just off the Skattebo Reach Trail, a small parking lot is located off of Rosedale Rd. This very short walk will take you to great views of the mountains and river, a perfect place for a quick beverage/coffee stop.
-
The mountains may not be as big here as further north, but he views from this bridge sure are. We like to park downtown and do a loop through West and East Trail, coming back on the Victoria Bridge
-
The perfect place in Nelson to take a break from the outdoor activities and take in the river and Big Orange Bridge.
-
So many great trails in this area for a great view of Cranbrook. Four Lakes is a great picnic location and many of the trails are great birding opportunities.
