Edmonton and Jasper Outdoors Guide
Trails
-
This a a 8 km trail of moderate difficulty, but its so worth if you are able. A short 30 minute drive from Edmonton, the trail is mainly shaded with some open clearings so keep your eyes open for the buffalo!
-
Best dog park in the city in our humble opinion. Fantastic views of the river and walk across the bridge to check out Jan Reimer Park. Your dog will love wide open fields and trails that are off leash.
-
Find parking near the Amphitheatre in Hawrelak Park, travelling the wooded trails along the river to Sir Wilfred Laurier Park. These sand and gravel trails will fool anyone to think they are well outside city limits.
-
Our favourite trail in Edmonton not on the main river system. A mix of paved and gravel trails with off leash dog areas running from Gallagher Park in the north to Argyll Park in the south.
-
Yes it is busy, no it is not over rated. The 4.5km hike will take a couple of hours by the time you take all of you picture as you walk through the canyon.
-
With wonderful views around each lake you will surely not be disappointed. Take the shorter route around 2nd, 3rd and 4th lake or add in 1st lake with an 30 minutes to spare. Try for mid to late summer for the best water views as sometimes in spring not enough snow melt as filled the lakes yet.
Activities
-
One of the most recognized landmarks in Edmonton, these three pyramids display arid, tropical and temperate plants with the fourth being a seasonal display.
-
Over a 100 vendors on Saturdays to create a hot bed for delicious eats. Weather you pick up lunch here or something to cook at home, look forward to your best munchies yet.
-
Take this stunning foot bridge from the river valley into Downtown. Pass by the Alberta Legislature and cut across the downtown core on Jasper Ave on you way to the 100th St Funicular
-
Once you have explored Downtown Edmonton, if you are itching to get back to the river valley this is the way to do it. The quick 50 second ride, is free and will take you down to the valley. Take a stop at the Frederick G Todd Outlook while you are in the area a well.
-
A slower pace and less busy than its cousin Banff. The downtown is full of touristy stores to window shop and break at a local cafe between activities. A couple hours is plenty of time to explore before you head out on your next adventure.
-
This is one of the few things in our outdoor guides that you have to pay for, but its worth it.
