Barrie and Muskoka Outdoors Guide
Trails
-
The outer trail of the Nature Reserve is 3km long and takes less than 45 minutes to complete. Mostly shaded with many bridges, the trail is dirt so can get quite muddy.
-
This 6km route just west of the 400 is a great option for a hike within Barrie with 300 feet of elevation change.
-
This Muskoka trail features an easy hike with great views. Well shaded with multiple swimming options during a hot summer day. The bridges at the halfway mark offer great photo op.
-
Starting near Lake Simcoe, this trail follows Hewitt’s Creek south and offers an easy hike along the ravine.
-
There are many great trails near Spring Water Provincial Park, but this is our favourite. It is an easy trail with a wide path and plenty of parking
-
A short walk with a big pay off! The trail starts with a steep climb before opening up near the summit with great expansive views. Only downside is parking is quite limited.

-
Bring your own or rent a bike and enjoy the many trails offered for all skill levels. Just 20 minutes away from downtown Barrie
-
This large painting is a great starting point to explore the lakeside village of Port Carling. It makes a great base to explore the rest Muskoka has to offer.
-
While most of our outdoors guides are for day time activities, the Dark Sky viewing area is a must, with many boardwalk trails nearby while you wait for the sun to set. A 30 minute drive from Gravenhurst will bring the night sky to you with no light pollution.
-
A very cool area to see a unique boat lift on the Trent Severn Waterway. The only one in North America that is still operational, bring a picnic or grab a bite nearby and post up here and watch it in operation.
